From agng at facstaff.wisc.edu Wed Mar 19 06:54:34 2008 From: agng at facstaff.wisc.edu (Alan Ng) Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2008 08:54:34 -0500 Subject: [irishtune.info] New items in index and improvements Message-ID: <47E11B1A.3070802@facstaff.wisc.edu> Dear irishtune.info news subscribers, Hope you've all recovered from the St. Patrick's Day chaos, if you had to experience it. Here's what's happened at irishtune.info since the last newsletter on November 24: 1) Ten New Items in Index * Eight CDs: James Kelly http://www.irishtune.info/album/JK+4/ Catherine & John McEvoy http://www.irishtune.info/album/KlmFcy/ Paddy O'Brien, Jamie Gans, Daithi Sproule http://www.irishtune.info/album/SnugBl/ Kilfenora Ceili Band http://www.irishtune.info/album/KCB+3/ Seamus Egan http://www.irishtune.info/album/SEgn+1/ Patrick Street http://www.irishtune.info/album/PS+7/ Martin Hayes http://www.irishtune.info/album/MH+5/ ?thas http://www.irishtune.info/album/Aths+1/ * Two tunebooks: Josephine Keegan's _A Drop in the Ocean_ (JKg 3) Pat Mitchell's _The Dance Music of Willie Clancy_ (WC) * Thank you to: Terry Moylan at NPU for donating a high-quality reproduction of the out-of-print Willie Clancy book. Baxter Rogers for donating the Kilfenora, Seamus Egan, and Patrick Street CDs. RWW Taylor for funding most of the cost of purchasing the Keegan book. James Kelly for donating a copy of his CD. ?thas for donating a copy of their CD. 2) Site Improvements Motivated by feedback a long time ago from Lia Zito, Elizabeth Simcock, and David Moulton, (thank you!) I finally figured out a way to make the pop-up windows in the Tune Finder results behave nicely when you reach the bottom of your computer screen. You'll notice that the popups near the bottom of the screen no longer extend out of sight, below the edge of your screen, and instead appear _above_ the relevant search result, in full view. Also, RWW Taylor, who is working on his own tune database, one focusing on tunebooks, has been sending me regular reports of omissions or errors he has identified in irishtune.info's tune bibliographies. You can see my detailed acknowledgements of his contributions here: http://www.irishtune.info/faq/support.html#errors It's quite a compliment that he is investing so much time working through the entire irishtune.info database in order to improve his own database. 3) Support As always, if any of you are able to help out with the expenses of operating irishtune.info, consider these options: http://www.irishtune.info/faq/support.html And thank you to those of you who continue to make purchases after following the "availability" links throughout irishtune.info which lead you to retailers who carry the CDs and books covered in the index. This source of income continues to be the most significant one for irishtune.info. Remember that irishtune.info only gets credited if you _start_ your visit to a retailer via a link from irishtune.info. Enjoy the new season! The snow is finally melting here in Wisconsin ... -- ____________________________________________________________ Alan Ng, PhD . agng at facstaff.wisc.edu . http://www.alan-ng.net/ Madison, Wisconsin, USA
