Dear irishtune.info news subscribers,
More nerdy stuff to announce:
1) http://www.irishtune.info/rhythm/history.html
Is a three-dimensional graph describing the rise, fall, and vagaries of
how various Irish tune types have fared in commercial recordings over
the past 100 years.
Lots of fascinating things about Irish music history can be read from
this graph: I will shortly post some comments to IRTRAD-L with a few of
my thoughts.
2) Since the previous news broadcast on Mar. 3, 2006, I've re-indexed
the Cobb abc collection, which I last inspected several years ago. The
result of my combing through it was that I found 38 additional
transcriptions in it which match tunes in the Tunography. Quoting the
Bibliography page: there are now a total of 735 transcriptions from the
Cobb collection in the Tunography.
If any of you are interested in a copy of the Cobb abc files ordered by
their Cobb ID# (as listed in each tune's Z: field), let me know. As abc
fans among you know, Cobb keeps his tune transcriptions ordered
alphabetically by title, which makes his X: numbers unstable and
temporary. In the course of working on the Cobb index I wrote a program
to re-sort his abc files according to their permanent Cobb ID number in
the Z: field.
